今日は節分ということで、「節分ってなに?」ということについておは西していきたいと思います。

節分の由来と意味
節分とは文字通り節(季節)の分かれ目。昔は立夏立秋立冬、それぞれの前日のことを節分と言っていましたが、現在では立春(2月4日頃)の前日を節分といいます。節分に行う豆まきは、季節の変わり目に起こりがちな病気や災害を鬼に見立て、それを追い払う儀式。 宮中で節分に行われていた追儺(ついな)」という鬼払いの儀式が広まったものです。昔から節分には厄を払い新年の幸せを願う行事が日本各地で行われ、現在も大切にされています。

 

なぜ春だけ?と思う人もいるでしょう。

それは、「春」は1年の始まりとされていたからです。

旧暦では、立春」=「元日」、「節分」=「大晦日と考えられていたため、重要視されていたわけです。日本は元々、太陰暦を使っていましたが、ずれが生じるのを理由に明治に太陽暦に変更されました。そのため、今のように節分が持つ意味合いが少し薄れているのは事実です。

 

まだ豆まきをしていない人もいるでしょうから、正しい豆まきの方法を確認しておきましょう!!

正式な豆まきとは?
①日暮れまでに福豆を準備をします。

②鬼が戸口から入るのを防ぐため「ヒイラギの小枝にイワシの頭をさしたもの」を門や玄関に飾ります。鬼はイワシとヒイラギが大の苦手とされているからです。これは「鰯柊(いわしひいらぎ)」として店頭でも販売されていますが、手作りも簡単です。

午後8時~10時頃開始します。玄関、ベランダ、窓などすべての戸を開け放します。

④年男は桝に入れた福豆を手にして、玄関から各部屋を回ります。出入口のとことで「鬼は外、福は内」と2回ずつ繰り返し声をかけながら豆をまきます。桝を左手に、胸の高さに持ち、右手で下手投げでまくのが正しいまき方です。

⑤豆をまき終わったらすぐに戸締りをします。鬼を締め出し、福を逃さないためです。

⑥豆まきが終わったら家族全員で豆を食べますが、この豆は「年取り豆」と呼ばれます。自分の年齢だけ、もしくは年齢の数+1個だけ食べるのがならわしです。そんなに食べられないという場合は代わりに「福茶」を飲む習慣もあります。ちなみに、豆まきの豆を炒るのは、「拾い忘れた豆から芽が出るとよくない」といういわれがあるからです。

 

明日から暦の上では春です!!この寒い冬もあともう少しです!

コロナウイルスの脅威から解放され活気が戻り、この緊張状態の雪解けにも期待したいですね。

The Origin and Meaning of Setsubun
Setsubun is literally the division of the seasons. In the old days, the day before the first day of summer, autumn, and winter was called Setsubun, but nowadays, the day before Risshun (around February 4th) is called Setsubun. The bean-throwing ceremony held on Setsubun is a ritual to drive away illnesses and disasters that tend to occur during the change of seasons. It is a widespread ritual of driving away demons, called "Tsuina", which used to be held during Setsubun at court. From the olden days, events to drive away evil spirits and wish for a happy new year have been held in many parts of Japan, and are still cherished today.

 


Why only in spring? Some people may wonder why only in spring.

The reason is that spring was considered to be the beginning of the year.

In the lunar calendar, Risshun = New Year's Day, and Setsubun = New Year's Eve, so it was considered important. Originally, Japan used the lunar calendar, but it was changed to the solar calendar in the Meiji era (1868-1912) because of the misalignment. Therefore, it is true that the significance of Setsubun is a bit diminished as it is now.

 


Since some of you probably haven't done the mamemaki yet, let's make sure you know how to do it right!

What is the official bean-throwing ceremony?
1) Prepare the beans by nightfall.

(2) To prevent ogres from entering through the doorway, decorate the gate or entranceway with a sprig of holly with a sardine head on it. This is because it is said that ogres are not very fond of sardines and holly. This is also sold in stores as "Sardine Hiiragi", but it is easy to make by hand.

It is easy to make by yourself. 3) Start around 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (3) Start at around 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (4) Leave all doors open, including the front door, balcony, and windows.

6) After the bean-throwing, the whole family eats the beans together, which are called "Nenori-mame". It is customary to eat only your own age, or the number of your age plus one. If you can't eat that many beans, it is also customary to drink "Fukucha" instead. Incidentally, the reason why beans are roasted during the bean-throwing ceremony is because it is said that it is not good if beans that are forgotten to be picked up sprout.

 


Tomorrow is spring according to the calendar! This cold winter is almost over!

I'm hoping that the threat of the coronavirus will be lifted, that life will return, and that this tense situation will melt away.
