Today's blurbs 2/4

Today's blurbs are from an article in the Asahi Shimbun.

On February 1, the Takamatsu High Court ruled in a lawsuit filed by a group of lawyers against the lower house election last October, in which the "disparity in votes" was up to 2.08 times, claiming that the election was "contrary to the Constitution, which stipulates equality in voting value. Judge Ryuichi Kamiyama pointed out that the 11 constituencies in Shikoku were "unconstitutional" and dismissed the request to invalidate the election.

Normally, you would think, "Hmm? You'd think.

You probably learned in school that there are equal elections, but the reality is that the disparity in votes is twice as large as it should be under the constituency system.

There are indeed differences in the number of votes in each region, but it is no longer unusual these days for people with no roots to run for election in local areas.

I would also like to consider the disparity in votes between generations.

In terms of the ratio of voters, the number of young people is overwhelmingly small, and even if all the voters voted, the chances of winning the election would be greatly reduced for those who promise policies favorable to the young. Therefore, the only way to win votes is to have policies that are favorable to healthcare and the older generation.

The current election system may be "equal," but it is far from "fair," and the burden of the younger generation, whose opinions are not being heard, is becoming greater.

I would like to see the government action based on a more flexible way of thinking and thinking about the future of the country, instead of sticking to laws and frameworks that are decades old.
