Today's Blur

Today's blurb comes from the curious topic of "starting salary.

Starting salary seems like a lot considering the cost of a part-time job as a student, but the reality seems to be that a large percentage of the salary is for insurance and the cost of becoming self-supporting, leaving little money for actual free spending.

In such a situation, "Bandai" announced that it will raise the starting salary by 30%.

Bandai announced on March 28 that it will introduce a new compensation system in April 2022, coinciding with the start of the next mid-term plan. With the aim of stabilizing employee income, the ratio of monthly salary to annual income will be increased, and the starting salary for new graduates will be raised from 224,000 yen to 290,000 yen, a 30% increase.

By raising the salary level, the company aims to increase employee motivation and revitalize the organization. All employees other than new graduates will also receive an average increase of approximately 27%.

In addition, Bandai and BANDAI SPIRITS have a performance-based compensation system, and through bonuses and other measures that appropriately reflect performance, the average annual salary for the entire company in FY2021 is expected to increase by 110% over FY2020.

This salary increase is sure to be a great motivator for employees.

The increased time at home may have increased demand for products such as candy, toys, and games.

I am curious about the "performance-based compensation system."

I feel that if this applies to all salaries, the uncertainty factor would be a bit greater as it is highly dependent on performance. In particular, I am concerned about how well the company will be able to cope with a drop in demand if the future is unpredictable due to a situation such as the recent pandemic.

Alternatively, if the fixed salary is fixed to some extent and then added on top of it, I think it would directly affect the motivation of the employees.

Either way, a 30% overall increase is a big move.
