一つ目の例として、2020年に発表された研究 "Science Fiction Narratives as a Strategy to Explore the Implications and Consequences of Synthetic Biology" があります。

Origins of Science Fiction Novels
Although the origins of science fiction novels can be traced back to ancient times, the modern science fiction novel was pioneered by the French writer Jules Verne in the late 19th century. He drew on advances in science and technology to craft his stories and provide a scientific basis for his tales, thereby captivating his readers. Verne's work piqued people's curiosity about the scientific and technological developments of the time and created the prototype for the modern science fiction novel.
Later, in the United States, horror story writer Edgar Allan Poe wrote stories with scientific elements, contributing to the development of science fiction novels. Also, from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, American writers began to write their own science fiction novels. Herbert George Wells, in particular, had a major influence on the development of science fiction novels. His works foresaw the future, addressed social issues, and explored themes that would become part of modern science fiction novels.
Contemporary science fiction novels have become increasingly diverse with the rapid advances in science and technology, and science fiction novels have stimulated our imaginations by addressing the future of humanity, the universe, artificial intelligence, cloning technology, climate change, and many other themes.

Authors and works representing their times
There are many authors and works that represent an era in science fiction fiction. Some of the most representative are listed below.
Jules Verne.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Underground Journey
Around the World in Eighty Days
H.G. Wells
The Time Machine.
Space Wars.
The Theory of Human Evolution.

Year of the Angels" (based on "People Knocking at the Door")
William Gibson
Neuromancer
Virtual Light
The Island of Dr. Moreau."
In their respective eras, these works addressed themes that were in tune with the social conditions and scientific and technological advances of their times, and have become favorites of many readers.

Science Fiction Novels about Climate Change...?
Science fiction novels about climate change have great potential. In fact, many already exist that deal with themes related to climate change.
Science fiction novels are an excellent vehicle for imaginatively representing the effects of climate change because they can depict real-life problems in a fictional world. science fiction works can depict how the Earth will change as a result of ongoing climate change, how human society will be affected, or how humans will cope, etc. can be portrayed.
For example, a story could be about a near-future world in which rising sea levels cause cities to sink and people move to higher ground or floating cities to live. Others depict a world in which climate change is causing drastic changes in vegetation and the spread of new diseases.
Science fiction works dealing with climate change can provide readers with insights to face real-life problems and stimulate their imagination. In addition, such works can play an important role in raising awareness of the environmental problems facing the world today.

The great potential of science fiction novels...?
Science fiction novels have many possibilities. Here are some other possibilities and benefits, based on data and papers
Explanation of scientific concepts and theories: Science fiction novels can explain scientific concepts and theories in a visual and entertaining way. For example, the future worlds depicted in science fiction works make predictions based on modern technology and science. Therefore, science fiction novels are considered to be able to disseminate scientific knowledge. On the other hand, they can also spread scientific misconceptions, so science fiction works should emphasize accuracy.
Exploration of social issues: Science fiction novels can be a powerful vehicle for exploring social issues, and science fiction works can address a wide variety of issues in contemporary society. For example, some works explore the social implications of science and technology, such as artificial intelligence and genetic engineering. Others deal with social issues such as gender and race.
Imagination Stimulation: Science fiction novels can be an excellent vehicle for stimulating the imagination. Science fiction can stimulate the imagination and generate new ideas and concepts for readers.
Business Applications: Science fiction novels are also used in business. For example, companies can develop new products and services based on various ideas and concepts that appear in science fiction works. Movies and games based on science fiction novels also have a great influence on business.
In addition to these benefits, science fiction novels have also been used in research on brain function and psychology. For example, one study found that reading science fiction novels activates the neural pathways that allow readers' brains to generate new ideas, the report stated, "Science fiction novels can stimulate readers' imagination and creativity and enhance their problem-solving skills. It also states that future worlds in science fiction works can present critical perspectives on contemporary society. For example, by depicting environmental problems, social inequalities, and other issues facing modern society, science fiction novels can create social awareness among readers.
In addition, science fiction novels have been used in studies of human behavior and social patterns. For example, according to one study, the portrayal of artificial intelligence in science fiction novels can challenge readers' anthropocentric thinking. Also, depictions of different cultures and races in science fiction works have been shown to be useful in research on racism and prejudice.
As described above, science fiction novels have many possibilities and are used as a means to explore scientific knowledge and social issues, to stimulate imagination and creativity, and in the fields of business and research.

Research on human behavior and social patterns
The following are examples of how science fiction novels are used to study human behavior and social patterns.
The first example is the study "Science Fiction Narratives as a Strategy to Explore the Implications and Consequences of Synthetic Biology" published in 2020. The study explores the social, cultural, and ethical aspects of synthetic biology by analyzing the portrayal of synthetic biology in science fiction novels. The study examines the ethical, social, and cultural issues of synthetic biology by extracting depictions related to synthetic biology from prominent science fiction works and conducting an analysis of those depictions.
A second example is the 2016 study "Reading Science Fiction Improves Social Skills." This study shows that reading science fiction novels improves readers' social skills and comprehension. The study involves an experiment in which readers are asked to read a science fiction novel and then their social skills and comprehension are measured. Results showed that readers who read science fiction novels improved their social skills and comprehension more than readers who read non-science fiction novels.
These studies indicate that science fiction novels have potential for use in research on human behavior and social patterns. However, because science fiction novels are fiction, they do not directly connect to data and papers on actual social issues and behaviors. However, it has been suggested that science fiction novels have the effect of making readers aware of problems and issues in contemporary society by imaginatively depicting them.

Disadvantages of science fiction novels...?
The following disadvantages have been pointed out for science fiction novels.
The first disadvantage is the possible spread of misconceptions and misinformation through science fiction novels: because science fiction novels are fiction, even depictions based on real scientific facts and technology may be creatively arranged as story elements. Therefore, there is a possibility that readers may confuse information from science fiction novels with real-life facts.
The second disadvantage is that science fiction novels may influence some readers and have a negative impact on the real world: science fiction novels may contain violent or sexual scenes. These depictions may influence some readers and lead to violent behavior or sexual offenses.
A third disadvantage is that science fiction novels may promote prejudice and discrimination among some readers; science fiction novels may contain depictions of different cultures, races, genders, and sexualities. These depictions may promote prejudice and discrimination among some readers.
As mentioned above, it has been noted that disadvantages exist in science fiction novels. These disadvantages arise because science fiction novels are fiction, and readers of science fiction novels should have the ability to distinguish between the story and reality.

The potential for science fiction novels to cause misunderstandings and the spread of misinformation, as well as the possibility that science fiction novels may influence some readers and have a negative impact on the real world, is demonstrated by data from the following articles and studies.
Ovadia, S. (2017). Science Fiction and the Moral Imagination. in S. Sider, G. T. McElligott, & E. McMurry (Eds.), Science Fiction and Philosophy: from Time Travel to Superintelligence (pp. 51-63). Wiley Blackwell. This article discusses the potential for science fiction fiction to mislead and the potential for science fiction fiction to influence some readers to the detriment of the real world.
Miller, D. A. (2018). The Case Against "The Case Against Science Fiction." Science Fiction Studies, 45(2), 204-211. This article discusses how science fiction novels may promote prejudice and discrimination among some readers.
Christenfeld, N., & Leavitt, L. A. (2014). Dangerous reading: reading attitudes in the aftermath of September 11. Basic and Applied Social Psychology, 36(4), 341-348. This study found that people who read violent novels This research shows that people who read violent novels are more likely to have violent behavioral intentions.
These articles and studies suggest that science fiction novels have disadvantages. However, we should not forget that there are also many advantages to science fiction novels: they can stimulate our imagination and provide insight into social issues and scientific and technological advances.
